Match

First of all, big congrats to Mike and Shawn on your matches and getting everything you wanted for Christmas! As far as our match, well, let's just say we are hopefully going to be able to visit all of you out in the East neck of the woods. We actually matched at Ball Memorial in Muncie, Indiana. To say that we were shocked by this is a bit of an understatement! We hoped for McKay, but, after a phone call to them due to my shock, they said I was super close, but they didn't go far down their list (only 6 positions) and we just missed out. In a bit of a snowball effect Provo didn't rank us as high because they expected us to go to McKay and Boise would have been possible if we had put them higher, but they were also full by the time it got to us. They filled quickly as well, which probably has something to do with their program director being the president of the AAFP this year. So, then it fell to #4. We were pretty disappointed for several reasons: we just bought and refinanced a house in Riverdale, apparently I'm not as cool as I thought (even for the non-competive Family Medicine field), and we actually never went to Muncie to interview - I did a phone interview because I knew it was a great program but didn't quite have the cash to fly out there around Christmas time. So, after several days of trying to pick up the pieces of my mother-in-laws shattered heart, we are excited and anxious about the prospect of moving across country. After the initial shock wore off (which still returns from time to time), we have decided to make this great. Everyone's advice to us is that "everything happens for a reason." So I guess my over-confidence and stupidity, and McKay not liking me can only be explained by a miracle in disguise! In all truth, we're excited but nervous. It will be a huge change for us, but we're going to make it great. We'll have to see if we can come visit with all of you back there, as time permits. Congrats again, and much love! DIRTY KURDT
